Home At Last

Four months and 24 days. That’s how long it has been since Elaina and Canny motored away from the sanctity of the Garage Mahal and the All-America City of Fremont, California one last time. In the ensuing months on the open road through two countries and eleven states, they meandered through lush forests and high-desert pine; weathered rain, snow and the occasional gravel-and-dust storm courtesy of our finest road-construction crews; and endured sub-freezing temperatures and scorching Arizona heat, all without missing a beat.

At last, they get a well-deserved breather in a new home in Colorado country, an oasis just 10 minutes from Fort Collins’ vibrant Old Town and a stone’s throw from rolling hills, freshwater lakes and unencumbered backcountry roads. Today we closed on the real estate deal, got the keys and moved in! Much gratitude goes to Cyrus Green, who is a fantastic agent and also a genuinely great guy. If you ever find yourself wanting to move to the Colorado Front Range as I have done, or have a home here to sell, you should drop him a line.

It’s been an amazing journey, and a recap on the Great American Road Trip will be coming soon. In the meantime, please excuse me, I’ve got some unpacking to do.

My Alfa Romeo had no problems carrying a ladder, at least with the top down.
