I was still lying in bed when I sensed a change in ambient light piercing the bedroom window. Unconsciously, I turned my head until I was looking directly skyward, and saw what appeared to be a Martian sky. Reflexively, I leaped out of bed and bolted downstairs, grabbed the camera, and took the following photo. (Ok, my photography skills are not great.) In about two minutes, the reddish colors had completely disappeared leaving shades of blue, white, and grey. Continue reading »

The weekend of last month’s Boulder 100 was the last time we got any rain out here, and likely the final time for 2007. Ever since then, we’ve just had magnificently sunny and comfortable weather with highs usually in the 60s. To celebrate, I finally took Cranky the Mountain Bike out for a spin to explore some of the trails right behind my back yard. Continue reading »
The other day I had a unexpected visitor, someone I had never met before.
He had an oval face, a long, pointy nose, and a belly so rotund that his legs were partly obscured by them. Despite being pudgy, he was quite small — being a youngster after all — and actually quite a cute little guy. His name was Herman. Continue reading »
