Fort Collins, CO

I had spent years pondering my ideal place to live, and in late 2005, I decided that Fort Collins was it. Apparently, I wasn’t the only one — ten months later, Money Magazine declared Fort Collins as “the best place to live” in America. I won’t disagree.

A friend of mine, Jonathan, had mentioned that he had found “a form of cross training which brutalizes the body even more than running — ice skating!” This intrigued me enough that I picked up a slightly-used pair of Bauer Air 30 ice skates — courtesy of Craigslist — and went over to City Park and Sheldon Lake in Fort Collins, which has a free, outdoor rink. Prior to this election year, I have never participated in a caucus because I had formerly always lived in a primary-only state. But it didn’t require prior experience to guess that Democratic turnout this year was unusually high. “Man, I’m going to need some help here,” I pleaded by my sixth beer of the day.

Now, fortunately all the beers I had were in small, sample-sized glasses so I wasn’t quite yet in a slurred-speech drunken stupor and falling out of my chair. Yet, I certainly could have used some help finishing the stuff.
