In my entire life, I have only owned sports cars, and only one with a fixed roof and more than two seats (sort of). As I get older, slightly more practical, and more environmentally friendly, this may change, but my love affair with the automobile continues.
Welcome to the page dedicated to Lina, the brand new Atlanta Metallic Blue ‘00 BMW Z3 2.3 I had from February 2000 to February 2003. She’s German but the vintage British sports car spirit was there. In fact, as BMW even owned the MG marque for much of the 90’s, we can even consider her a distant cousin of the MGF!
In many ways, she was similar to Goldie, with similar length, driving position, round gauges, wooden center console and gear-shift knob. However, the melodious and torquey 2.5L inline-6, toggle-switch-like stick and so-easy-to-put-up-or-down power top put her in a class of her own. What beautiful sounds she made! This was vintage sports car motoring at its finest! Continue reading »
This page is about Portia, the ‘86 944 Turbo I owned in 1999. As a voluptuous, flared-fendered speed demon that could sprint from 0-60 in 6.1 seconds, she was my long-distance, inclement-weather road rocket. She was also supposed to be my autocrosser during 1999, but ultra-cycling events and travels ended up gobbling all of my spare time instead.
She is currently enjoying the sunshine of Hawaii with her new owner. She was a surprisingly practical car… just don’t expect to fit more than 2 people at once for more than 20 minutes; that “back seat” is a joke! Continue reading »
Welcome to the page dedicated to Goldie, my cheery “Pale Primrose” ‘69 MGB! We were together from November 1995 to November 2007 and had so many adventures to speak of. Notable accessories include genuine chrome wire wheels, luggage rack, tonneau cover, wooden center console and aluminum cylinder head. And yes, she does have a stow-away hood, although she prefers going “topless”… Continue reading »
Ah, the MG… To “The Faithful,” these two magical letters define the term “sports car.” The marque’s legendary style, grace, durability and even idiosyncrasy has charmed even the most demanding enthusiast, despite its wonderful simplicity and affordability. It has been said that every Brit has owned or driven one of Morris Garage’s driving machines at one time or another. Considering that over 513,000 MGB’s were sold (still the all-time sports car record) and over 100,000 MGA’s were made (once the record), this is not too difficult to believe! Happily, a few years ago I had been fortunate enough to acquire a ‘74 B, the last year of the desirable chrome bumpers and unfederalized ride height. Continue reading »
