I enjoyed this book having read it before going to Paris in 2003, plus I enjoy most things French. But Adam Gopnik’s “sophisticated writing style” does not make it the easiest read, and after awhile it can bog one down. Indeed, a friend of mine lost interest in this book midway through and refused to finish it saying that she can’t waste time in life reading things she doesn’t enjoy!
