This book has a ton of original ideas for backpacking, many of which I’ve adopted over the years… also glosses over (in a couple of paragraphs or so) how he managed to retire early (”move south” or something like that).
The author, Ray Jardine, is a very interesting guy. He invented the Friend (a camming device one jams into rock, which is pretty common nowadays) for rock climbing. He was an aerospace engineer but retired in his early 30s to pursue some pretty amazing outdoor feats with his wife.
