Hoover Dam

We were on our way to Grand Canyon West from Vegas when a sign off Interstate 11 caught my eye. Hoover Dam.

“Let’s stop by for a quick look,” I said to Andrea. Soon we were rolling through a checkpoint with security guards.

I rolled down my window and mentally prepared myself to answer a bunch of questions. I was asked only one.

“Do you have any guns or weapons?”

I answered in the negative and the security man motioned us to keep driving. Moments later, Andrea laughed.

“I have never been asked that before,” she said.

“Me neither,” I replied. “And even if someone did have weapons, would they reply ‘yes’?” I wondered, incredulously.

We parked and then walked over to the Mike O’Callaghan–Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge to take the photos shown below.

It was worth the stop, even if we did have to affirm that we weren’t transporting any arms.
