One really gets a good sense of how colossal Mt. Shasta is while driving towards it north of Redding along I-5.

Here is a list of the 58 California County Summits. When I lived in California I set a long-term goal of mine is to do all of them solely via human power (e.g., by hiking, climbing, snowshoeing, or even bicycling). So far I have climbed 13. Now that I live in Colorado, accomplishing that may take a long longer. In any case, the mountains await!

An old observation tower near the summit of Mt. Pinos. It used to be used to watch for condors, until condors were on the brink of extinction. A number of years ago the last condor was caught and bred in a successful-but-controversial program; there are now about 100 condors.
